Welcome to Hopkins Technology, an electronic publisher based in Hopkins, Minnesota. Since 1986 our mission has been simple and enduring: to play a part in the ongoing digitization of the world's vast store of knowledge and skill. We think of ourselves as an electronic publisher — the modern analog of the traditional print publisher — with two target media for personal computers: the Internet and the CD-ROM.

Over the decades Hopkins Technology has produced roughly thirty separate reference and educational titles spanning health, nutrition, herbal medicine, science, fine art, travel and geology. Alongside that catalog we have always offered something we are especially proud of: a large, free consumer health-information library — plain-English articles on hundreds of health, nutrition, disease and safety topics, much of it adapted from authoritative United States government public-domain sources.

A Free Health Information Library

Our best-known free resource is the health article collection we have long described as "$1,000,000+ Health Related Topics from Uncle Sam." It is a reference library of hundreds of consumer-health articles covering nutrition and diet, vitamins and minerals, herbs and alternative medicine, food safety, cancer, mental health, chronic diseases, women's and children's health, and emergency preparedness. The complete directory lives on our health article index, the hub from which every topic is just a click away.

These articles are written to be read by everyone — patients, caregivers and curious self-educators — not just clinicians. Where the original material comes from federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we say so, and we point you back to those primary sources so you can read further.

Our Multimedia Reference Catalog

Wrapped around the free library is a modest catalog of multimedia reference titles. Historically our most popular health titles have included an encyclopaedia of Western herbal medicine, a guide to Traditional Chinese Medicine, a natural-health encyclopaedia, and a family of diet, exercise and nutrition-analysis software built on what was, for many years, one of the largest food-nutrition databases ever compiled. You can browse the full lineup on our products page, or jump straight to the health titles or the education and science titles.

Nutrition Tools

For many years our nutrition software let people look up the nutritional content of thousands of common foods and analyze their own recipes. That work grew out of a food-nutrition database we began compiling in 1989 from government and industry sources, with much of the data supplied directly by food manufacturers. You can read about that nutrition-analysis software on our nutrition software page.

What We Believe

We believe trustworthy health information should be easy to find, plainly written and freely available. We believe a reference work — whether on a disc or on the web — should respect the reader's intelligence and time. And we believe the best health publishing always sends you onward to your own doctor and to the primary medical authorities. The information in our health library is provided for general educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional about your own health.
